Dave is the founding editor of Westbound, a newcomer in the Western history magazine niche, soon to be published by West7. He and wife Jill live in Harpers Ferry, West Virginia, the original "gateway to the West" for President Thomas Jefferson and adventurers Meriwether Lewis and William Clark.

Over his four-decade publishing career Dave has shepherded some 300 magazine issues into print and written hundreds of articles. From 2007 to 2024 he edited and wrote for both Wild West and Military History, two of nine titles in HistoryNet, the world's largest group of history magazines. During his tenure Wild West contributors earned more than two dozen writing awards, including four Wranglers from the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum, four Spurs from Western Writers of America, more than a dozen Six-Shooters from the Wild West History Association, and four Will Rogers Medallion Awards.

Before landing in the history niche Dave spent nearly 20 years as an editor, writer, and photographer for travel, general interest, and music industry publishers. As a researcher, author, and editor for such travel publishers as Lonely Planet, National Geographic, Rough Guides, and the Appalachian Trail Conservancy, Dave roamed a million miles and shaped millions of words to relate adventures spanning the globe. Now he and Westbound's remuda of experienced contributors look forward to sharing more stories of the people, places, and events that made the American West such an iconic region in human history.
